Coming Soon... a collection of our customers' questions about their PC needs and the answers our Pros provide. Here's a sample: Q: Why do two 56K modems download at different speeds? I have an external modem on one computer and an internal modem on another, and the external modem runs at 51K while the internal modem only runs about 33K. A:While all modems have the same specs, quality can vary widely during actual use. Most Internal modems on PCs now are what's called "WinModems" - they use the computer's CPU for their processing power. Unfortunately, something has to suffer in that case, and it's usually modem quality. You might also want to check with your ISP for the optimal settings on any modem - your modem's compatibility with their equipment is always a factor. |
